2013 was the year of 30-years anniversary of Taekwon-Do in Lubartów. On 16th January 1983 Master Jerzy Jedut (at that time 6th gup) has conducted for the first time Taekwon-Do training session in this city. This anniversary came together with 470-years anniversary of recognizing Lubartów as a legal sub-municipality. Therefore for the local authorities the Polish Senior Championships were a great opportunity to promote the city successfully so they decided to support the organizers financially.
Polish Senior Championships have gathered 169 competitors from 32 clubs who competed before in two national tournaments in order to qualify for the championships in Lubartów. After the Friday registration and weigh-in procedures the Saturday competition started in the morning with the individual categories. The level was very high and each fights very hard regardless of category.
In the late afternoon around 600 people assembled in the nice decorated sport hall of School Complex no. 2 in Lubartów to watch the final gala. Present were the authorities of the city, district and region. The honor guest was Mrs. Joanna Mucha, the Ministry of Sport and Tourism in Poland.
For the organizer the opening ceremony gala was an opportunity to show Taekwon-Do on the highest sport level in the surrounding of many additional attractions. Next to the four finals in sparring and pattern, undoubtedly the highlight of this evening was the surprising demonstration of pool dance presented by Joanna Derybowska and Monika Wiater, where the second one is a competitor and won in the morning the title of the Polish Champion in the category of female pattern III Degree.
Other important points of the final gala were also the demonstration of professional dance performed by the UDS ART Complex, an outstanding and very often awarded dance group in Poland, the demonstrations of fantastic children from TKD Tigers groups or the show which was performed by Mr. Jaroslaw Suska and Mr. Mariusz Walach, who came to Lubartów specially from Canada, where he lives at present.
It is worth mentioning that all invited guests have received 120-pages book on the subject: “30 years of Taekwon-Do in Lubartów” edited by Mr. Ireneusz Góźdź. The publication was prepared especially for the Championships.
The Polish Television Lublin has presented the footage about the Championships in the daily sport news. During the next week after the championships the program was broadcasted twice. Also the regional newspapers have Publisher many articles on that matter.
After finals have finished, the culminating moment was the fireworks night show organized at the Firlej Lake, located 20 km from Lubartów, where most of the participants were accommodated. The evening ended with a delicious anniversary cake prepared especially for this occasion.
The Sunday competition was dominated by the team patterns and team sparring. Also here the fights were full of emotions. The excitements accompanied the competition till the end, due to the fact that, there was not only the competition for the individual and team tiles but also for the title of the best school in the general medal classification.
Eventually, for the 22nd time, the most beautiful cup and the title of the best school went to the host club – MKS Lewart AGS Lubartów. The runner-up was LKS Matsogi Ciechanow. Wrocławski Sportowy Klub Taekwon-Do came in the third place.
The best competitors of the championships became Ilona Dziala (MKS Lewart AGS Lubartów) and Maciej Zuk (LKT Legnica). Both were awarded with trophies and received from the organizer 42-cal LCD TV sets each.
The competition finished on early Sunday afternoon.
To sum up, the Polish Senior Championships in Lubartów were one of the best organized in the history. They have very good organizational and medial settings. The event was admittedly more prestigious due to the presence of the authorities and the Ministry of Sport and Tourism.
