13th June 2003 ITF Congress in Poland decided to organize the XIV World Championships TKD ITF 2005 in Dortmund. This event will be held in term 28th July-31st July 2005 (summer holiday in NRW) in Dortmund in the Helmut-Körnig-Hall (in the region of Westfallen).
After 18 months of preparation made by ITF Germany and presentation on the World Congress in Poland, the General Assembly makes up his mind for Germany. This is worth to notice due to the fact that last both world tournaments were organized in Europe (Italy 2001 and Poland 2003).
This decision was expression of the fact, that ITF Germany has good reputation in the World Federation not only because of international appearance of athletes and officials.
Dortmund - best location in Germany
To consider all factors regarding the fact that Dortmund is the best choice, it would be:
2005 - Significant year for ITF
Taekwon-do insiders know that ITF 40 years ago ITF have sent first world famous demonstrations team also to Germany. (Han Cha Kyo- 6 Dan, Kim Jun Kun- 5 Dan, Kwon Jai Hwa- 5 dan, Park Jong Soo 5 Dan and general Choi Hong Hi himself built this team) Frankfurt, Berlin and München were the cities, where the team performed and delighted audience.
50 years ago (11th April 1955) to the martial art founded by gen. Choi was given the name Taekwon-do.
First time World Taekwon-Do Championships will be organized in Germany
22nd of March 1966 ITF Germany was initiator of ITF and never organized that kind of significant entertainment. Promise made by the World Congress means for the association and its members not only great trust, but also the right responsibility. We will do everything to not let this trust down and to make the ITF Germany stronger.
