Blackbelt Cup 2017 Report

The 3rd Blackbelt Cup took place on 18thNovember 2017 in St. Pölten, Austria. The last time the Blackbelt Cup was held, Austria was happy to welcome over 100 competitors to the tournament, however, a new record has been set this year with188 competitors from 20 clubs and 6 nations. The participants travelled from the Czech Republic, Moldova, Hungary,Bosnia and Herzegovina, Slovenia and - of course – Austria and competed in following disciplines:

  1. Matsogi / Sparring
  2. Tul / Pattern
  3. T-KI / Special Technique
  4. WI-ROK / Power Test
  5. JAKSOK JAYU MATSOGI / Pre-Arranged Free Sparring

Besides the many competitors, ITF-Austria was proud to welcome two masters as special guests to the tournament. Master Giovanni Cecconato VIII Degree, member of the ITF Tournament Committee, and Master Vladimir Machota VII Degree attended the 3rd Blackbelt Cup and were specially introduced by ITF-Austria’s president,Elmar Kickingereder VI Degree, during the opening ceremony.

This tournament was also special because it was the first one in Austria that was carried out with an electronic system only. The Austrian tournament and umpire committee handled the registration, draw, schedule and scoring (with smartphones) solely through the online system with great results and only few small delays that had little impact on the length of the tournament. Everyone was very pleased with the performance and we look forward to continuing the use of this online system.

Medals were spread very evenly between all nations, with special mention going to the clubs Spirit and Sasok from Hungary, which finished in first and second place, respectively, in the overall medal tally with 7 gold medals each. The top clubs from Austria were Guk-Gi and Baekjul-Boolgool with four gold medals each. Among many competitors who won more than one medal, we would like to specially mention Mr. Strungari Eugeniu5. Kup from Moldova who came first place in all of his three categories, an outstanding achievement! The full results can be found under the following link:

In closing, we would like to specially thank all umpires, assistants and staff members as well as competitors for making the 3rd Blackbelt Cup a tremendous success, in every aspect. We look forward to welcoming international guests at future ITF-Austria events.

ITF-Austria congratulates all winners!
