The annual 5th Latvian Taekwon-do ITF Cup 2018 and 11th Latvian Taekwon-Do ITF Beginner Cup 2018 set 3 records:
- We have entry forms from 8 countries - England, Kazakhstan, Russia, Latvia, Poland, Ukraine and Uzbekistan (6 countries participated in 2016, 4 countries in 2017)!
- A record number of participants was announced - 422 people (in 2016 were 156 athletes, in 2017 - 252 athletes)!
- The battles will be held at 7 rings (in 2016 there were 5 rings, in 2017 - 6).
Tournament was organized by Latvian Taekwon-Do ITF Association and Sport club “Chin-Goo” on 17th February 2018, in Salaspils Sport hall, Salaspils (20 km from Riga), Latvia.
The tournament was attended by 24 club 422 athletes from 8 countries – ENGLAND (Pantera, United Kindom), BELORUSSIA (Kaskad, Sparta and BPAT from Minsk and Vitebsk), KAZAKHSTAN (Berkut from Almaty), RUSSIA (St. Petersburg, Velikie Luki, Kingisepp and Viborg), POLAND (Matsogi Ciechanow, Lotos Jabłonna, Combat Sports Academy), UKRAINE (Kychko Team and Maks Sport from Kiev), UZBEKISTAN (Taekwon-do ITF federation) and LATVIA (AlexClub, Čin-Gu, TKD, Tan-Gun, Līvāni, Viktorija-T, Zeta Sports, LTCS un Sonkal).
Fights were evaluated by 3 secretary and 51 umpires under the direction of main umpire Artur Saulite (II dan).
In total there were contest for 187 medal sets (106 in LatBegCup and 81 in LatCup) in pattern, sparring, special technique, speed test (Dollyo chagi) and endurance test (Yop chagi).
In sparing 7-8 and 9-10 years old children was divided into groups of 4. It gave the opportunity to all to fight 2 times and prizes and medals. In categories with 3 participants, they fought by Olympic system.
The tournament was very good experience for young athletes and further stimulus for them to participate in other Taekwon-do competitions and to involve their friends in this kind of sport.
We want to say special thanks to our guests 8 countries and special supporters – Salaspils City Council, Salaspils sports hall, company Forevers, Latvian Academy of Sport Education and Latvian University of Latvian University Sport Federation.
Special gratitude goes to RIXWELL HOTEL for assistance of the accommodation more than 400 foreign team members (athletes, coaches, parents, supporters) during the tournament!
