This time for the annual Black Eagle Legends’ Seminar we had the joy and privilege to welcome Master Mark Hutton, 8. dan, from Scotland. Master Hutton works as a full-time instructor in his own Master Hutton Fitness Centre, based in East Kilbride, Glasgow.
For the weekend-seminar, (18-19.3) that was organised in Hervanta Leisure Center, nearly 60 participants attended from all around Finland and we even had a guest from Russia: Sabum Andrey Golubev 6th degree. On top of the seminar, a grading was held that brought two new 6. dan Sabums to Finland: Sabum Jori Aaltonen (Tampere Taekwon-Do) and Sabum Teppo Häyrynen (Espoo Taekwon-Do). Congratulations!
Thoughts about the Seminar:
“The Seminar worked as a good reminder about the fact, that our body is a weapon. For example how much damage you can inflict just with your fingertips when you know what you are doing – not forgetting that the body works as a whole, not just as hands or legs. It was really empowering to realize how much you can take and generate pain, because that is also what you need to learn and accept that there might be situations where it cannot be avoided.
After the seminar I had the feeling that the pain is more like a friend than a opponent. Related to this fact, it was good that the Martial attitude was highlighted throughout the seminar. The difference between the pretty technique and the practical technique was also made clear – it is important to learn the effective technique the way that it actually works. It does not matter if your leg won’t get up to 3 meters high: If you can generate devastating power at knee level with the kick, it is a good technique. You can work with the aesthetics later on. Fit for purpose!” -Sabum Maria Rikkonen
“Practice with goals in mind and approach them gradually. ‘Rome was not build in a day’. Set up target(s) to achieve in a session of training, a period of training, and during a training year. Most of all, put heart in what we do, that’s where the passion’s from, that’s how we grow.” – Boosabum Ruijie Ban
