Euros 2016 - Change of venue - Bigger hall, bigger screen

The venue for European Taekwon-Do Championships has changed from Hakametsä stadium to Tampere Exhibition and Sports Centre (TESC). The reason for this change is that the local ice hockey team Tappara made its way to the finals of the Finnish national hockey league and the last finals are played on the same week as the Euros.

The address of the new venue: Ilmailunkatu 20, 33900 Tampere, Finland

The organizers have been aware of the possible overlap and arrangements for this change have been in the works for a long time. Plans for the new venue are just as advanced as for the original venue. Even though the change has caused some extra work the change of venue affects positively on some championship arrangements:

1) The new venue is bigger so there will be more space for the rings, first aid stations, podium, etc. compared to Hakametsä stadium where the competition area would have been limited to the size of an ice hockey rink.
2) Moving around in the competition place will be easier since almost everything happens in one level compared to several floors.
3) Warm up hall is located just behind the wall anBR, d not in a separate building so access from the warm up hall to the competition area is faster and easier.

The change of venue does not affect transportation because the travel time from the hotels (Cumulus Koskikatu, Cumulus Hämeenpuisto and Holiday Inn) to TESC in exactly the same as it would have been to Hakametsä stadium. It takes around 15 minutes by bus (7 km). Prepaid 4-day tickets to the public transportation will also work just fine and the bus stop is right in front of the main entry of TESC.

Lunch on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday will be served at the competition venue. Lunch on Friday will be served at the hotels.

Even though the change of venue was only confirmed yesterday evening we would like to assure that all arrangements are well on their way and we will do our best to make the Euros a great event for everyone.

Welcome to Tampere, see you all in a couple of weeks!

Heli Karjalainen
