At last we see a professional level website proudly featuring ITF Taekwon-Do at its best!
In May 2015 the website called TKDCoaching.com was launched. The site is a new offering for the Taekwon-Do community, which connects people from around the world to Taekwon-Do experts by way of a growing video library users can watch and download.
While the site is still young, there is already a wide range of videos available which are already becoming popular. Videos cover topics from patterns, sparring, power breaking, and self defense to instructing as well as other specialty areas (such as seminars by Master Mark Hutton from Scotland and Miss Soledad Serrano from Argentina).
The videos themselves are either of coaching sessions between a recognised expert in their field and an individual student with lots of valuable tips to pick up as they go over fine details of technique and strategy, or group seminars which are veritable masterclasses on their respective topics.
The site is the mastermind of Master Paul McPhail, an 8th degree black belt from Auckland, New Zealand, and member of the ITF Technical Committee.
“I first had the idea for the site over five years ago, which was originally just an online coaching facility using video analysis tools to help students who live in isolated locations. That is what we have called COACH ME section on the website,” Master McPhail explains.
“Then over the last few years I began to observe some of the incredible coaching being done by the newer wave of instructors – many with their own specialist areas of expertise. I thought it is simply too good not to capture and share.
“This started me on my quest to film quality coaching sessions with the aim to create the most professional ITF coaching site out there. My goal is to allow any ITF enthusiast to be a ‘fly on the wall’ at any number of coaching sessions with some of the world’s best coaches. So all the videos are of people being coached – not just people doing Taekwon-Do. That is our point of difference.”
A quick browse at the roster of coaches whose videos are available on the site reveals the high calibre of the experts Master McPhail has involved in the project. Probably the most high profile name is internationally renowned coach Master Willy van de Mortel who has coached many national teams to great success at World Championships and coached top international sparrers Tomaz Barada and Julia Cross amongst others. Then we have ITF patterns double World Cup Champion and regular World Championships top 3 Mark Trotter, multiple ITF sparring World Champion and sought after high performance coach Carl van Roon as well as Irish sparring World Champion Louise McCagh.
As well as being able to watch hours of free content, there are currently over 30 titles for sale, and also a Premium Membership where members get to see the entire video library – plus over 30 hours of old TKD footage from all around the world.
We are please to see such a professional website come out of New Zealand – who one again lead the way as they do in so many areas of Taekwon-Do. Well done!
