The Swedish National Championship was held in the town Ljungby the 14th of November. The Swedish National Championships has a slightly different shaping from other competitions. Firstly it is organized almost solely by the Swedish Taekwon-Do Federation ITF which offers the opportunity for all Swedish cities to host the championships. Secondly all fights in sparring are carried out using the “pool-system” which guarantees many fights. There are also only one gold and one silver to fight for. No bronzes are awarded.
The day started with team pattern, an event that has been on the agenda in Sweden since ten years. To make an opportunity for as many teams as possible to take part the teams may consist of both juniors and seniors both female and male.
The championship then went ahead with individual pattern and also with power breaking and special technique. After the lunch break the qualification in sparring began. Many newcomers as well as the oldies fought well for a spot in the finals.
Before the finals Master Swavek Dydiszko was surprised by a warm and open-hearted ceremony to show appreciation for his work as a National Team Trainer for the years 1991-2015. Accompanied by music all present Swedish National Team competitors from the years mentioned above dressed in national tracksuits gathered around Master Dydiszko and a few speeches were held. This was very surprising and emotional for Master Dydiszko and the celebrations continued with yet another surprise later that evening, a special dinner were old Team Sweden-stories were told until late hours.
The finals in senior sparring took place in a gala. Most weight categories were won by those who beforehand were tipped to win but there were also some surprises.
Ahead is a short break for Christmas and New Years and then the Swedish National Team for the European Championships in Finland 2016 will be selected.
