The battle of Skaraborg in Sweden

The competition Skaraborgskampen (”The battle of Skaraborg”) was held in Skövde on Sunday the 22nd of February. The venue was Arena Skövde in which two European Championships and ten editions of Viking Cup International have taken place. Last weekend it was time for a little smaller competition where children and colored belts were in focus.

In Sweden there are four different kinds of competition that can be arranged: international, national, regional and a forth type called “club competition”. Skaraborgskampen was a competition of the type last mentioned which mean that the organizer can invite participants from up to 10 clubs.

In Skaraborgskampen about 150 competitors from the following clubs took part:

It was a great day with focus on having fun. For many of the participants it was their first competition, a big step in their TKD-career. A friendly atmosphere with joy and friendship contributed to many nice memories being made.

In Sweden children from 8-13 years of age wear a protective west during the sparring competition and techniques are only allowed to the body. From the age of 14 the west is removed and techniques towards the head are also allowed.

There were no divisions for black belts in Skaraborgskampen but many of the clubs higher degrees and members of the Swedish National Team took part as umpires and coaches which were very much appreciated among the competitors.

As Skaraborgskampen 2015 was a great success the planning for the next edition has already begun.
