This year In June, the Taekwon-Do ITF in Israel was officially recognized by the Israeli Ministry of Culture and Sports.
Last month, coach Sabumnim-Nim Leonardo Oros-Duek and four competitors of the Israeli delegation accompanied by family, made a long trip to the fifth World Cup tournament held in Montego Bay, Jamaica. Thus they formed the first Taekwon-Do ITF delegation to compete internationally as a recognized sport in Israel.
Already on the first day was a great turn-out of events: 13 years old Ron Kolsky from Aviel settlement, has reached the finals of the male 12-14 60+ category in sparring, beating Canada and England, and in the evening has won in the finals 4-0 against Argentina and with that has become the first Israeli black belt to win a world title!
While this was his first competition abroad, this isn't the case for the other 95 Israeli competitors, who, during the past eight years have competed in 13 different competitions outside of the country. Overall we have returned with over 90 medals!
Not knowing of the warm welcome that awaited at home, Ron has returned to appear on television along with his instructor Sabumnim Leonardo, and was later received at a special ceremony, where he was praised for his achievement by his town's and training place's Heads of Councils, letters of appreciationg by the Minister of Culture and Sport Mrs. Limor Livnat and Head of Sports Department Mr. Uri Shefer, the President of our Taekwon-Do Associaiton Sabumnim Danny Roth and also even celebrities.
During the event was screened an 11 minutes movie presenting 11 years of activity of the Israel Taekwon-Do Association.
Next week, a delegation of 36 competitors will leave for the European Cup and Cadet Cup compeititions in Hungary! We will continue to grow stronger and hope for your support, You are invited to follow us on our websites and facebook page.
