ITF Fight Evolution
ITF Fight Evolution is a project created by Oleg and Katya Solovey, the legendary coach and fighter pair.
Mr Solovey has announced their project back in July with the following words:
“ITF FIGHT EVOLUTION, we developed this seminar program for the training athletes all around the world. It's no secret that sports Taekwon-Do improved and to show good results in competitions can not stand still! In a short time of my job as a coach I prepared 9 European champions and three world champions in sparring and my best student Katya Solovey entered the elite of world Taekwon-Do and Kickboxing. We have developed a unique system of training and preparation of athletes for major international competitions such as the World Cups and European Championships, and we are ready to share our knowledge!
We have already implemented our project in the following countries: Finland, Wales, England, Sweden, Romania, Georgia, Hungary, Latvia, Germany, planned for autumn in Argentina and England.”
I had the honor to make an interview with Oleg Solovey about their project which have just got an official name.
- Where is the idea of your project coming from?
We held seminars in different countries and I thought that our work has to be called somehow and I realized that our style of sparring has its own peculiarity and that feature is really the evolution of ITF sparring.
- Is it a new idea or you have planned it for a while? Or you have started your seminar maybe and you have realized that you have to put everything under a project name?
This program is not temporary, it is the name for all of our seminars. There is no one concrete program of training, it's evolution and constant changes, constant search for better and realization of the best in our seminars. In this project we plan to involve other masters and champions of Taekwon-Do as well.
- Do you plan to make any materials for your project? Like you have the ITF Fight app on mobiles, or like some printouts, books, videos, etc.?
The basic realization of the project is at seminars. Also we already have the application for a mobile phone (https://itunes.apple.com/ua/app/tkd-sparring/id600422285 for iOS, https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.qbit.tkd for Android - the editor), so I plan to post some pieces of trainings in Facebook as I already did. On my YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/user/itfukraine) many moments of our trainings are available. Of course these are just videos without any explanation of the technical use or a combination or an exercise, so 100% of realization of the project is only possible in trainings, hard trainings!
- What is your goal to achieve with your project?
My main goal is the exchange of experience, to improve on the overall level of athletes in the world, to make TKD sparring more spectacular. I believe most fights on the competitions are “very dirty” and not as spectacular as it could be, so we don’t make TKD more popular, they are no spectacular fights with poor techniques. These are not good enough advertisement for TKD, and we can make it even better.
- Why are your seminars unique? What others do not teach what you would like to share?
There was a workshop that we held in Tampere, Finland. At the end of the workshop we talked with the participants of the workshop and we got an interesting question. I was asked: all the seminars in which they took part were mainly in the direction of working for side impact. Why we gave them something quite different? I said: I know that everyone is doing a lot of side impact and it may be effective and an easy way to win, but many coaches forgot that in TKD there are many awesome turning and jumping kicks.
We also developed an interesting work on distance control, I think it's key to success and we have worked a lot on it. In a short, generally there are a lot of tactical and technical developments what we have done.
- Is your program can be done at home for every athlete of Taekwon-do, or is it about participating in your seminar?
This program is very wide in use, it could be applied to the numerous seminars and later it is also good base for the individual trainings.
- Is the program developed by you as a coach, or is it developed with your wife?
I grew up as a coach along with Katya. In a time she became the best athlete, I have improved as a coach. The progress was very slow, step by step, sometimes there was a little steps backwards in order to make a big step forward. We always talk a lot with Katya about the trainings, the matches. We select the tactics for major competitors for our athletes together, so I would rather say it is our common work!
- Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us!
The pair is heading to Argentina for their next stop on their tour on 27-28th September, before they are going to the European Cup in Budapest with team Ukraine, have a nice seminar, and good luck on the European Cup!
