24th Belgian Championships

The 24th Belgian Championships were organised on Sunday March 30th, in Lede. Organizer was the club Won-Hyo under guidance of its instructor Mr. Tom Van De Sijpe, in co-operation with the Tournament & Umpire Committee ITF-Belgium.

The competition was open to coloured and black belts, there were categories for youth, juniors, seniors and veterans. There was competiton in individual tul, teamtul, sparring, power breaking, special techniques and pre-arranged sparring.

159 members of ITF-Belgium participated, from the affiiated clubs Taekwon-Do Norden, Bushido, ITF Brussels, Samjok-O, ITF Woluwe, So-San, Hodori, Chon-ji, Ge-Baek and Won-hyo, together with a lot of umpires, coaches and supporters. We were honoured to have Master Frank Vanberghen amongst us, pioneer of ITF-Belgium 24 years ago. Also the national team members were present, and proved to be ready for the European Championships in Italy in April.

The level of the competition was high, the atmoshpere amongst all clubs was superb, the spirit in and next to the rings was great, there were good effort by all : competitors, coaches, umpires, volunteers and supporters.

At the beginning of the championship some persons were honoured: Pablo Pascuzzo for winning the bronze medal in sparing -57kg on the World Championships in Benidorm, Virginia Dionisi and Yves Pollefeyt for the work over the last years as national coaches. This year they decided to step aside, their work will be continued by Bob Wigman.
