The ninth edition of Skövde Sports Gala was held in Arena Skövde in Sweden on Saturday 25 January. About 1000 people participated in the festivities which included dinner with entertainment as well as awards in different categories. The Gala was organized by Skövde municipality in order to celebrate sporting achievements in the year 2013.
Skövde is a town with a strong sporting tradition and many talented active athletes within the municipality border. Worth mentioning is that it has both a women's and a men's team in the premier league for handball, hockey teams and football teams in division 1, swimmer and skier on the international level as well as very successful riders, athletes and martial artists.
Skövde Taekwon-Do Club was nominated in four categories, and attended the ceremony with more than twenty representatives who enjoyed the delicious buffet and entertainment from the stage by Johanna Beijbom (performed Euphoria during the EC 2013) and David Lindgren, well-known singer.
One of the Sports Gala's most esteemed prizes is "female athlete of the year". Skövde Taekwon-Do Clubs Petra Dydiszko has over the years been nominated many times in this category and she was previously honored for achievements in year 2011. During this night, she was praised for her performances both in the year 2013 and also success during her entire career. Petra announced during her speech that she will now end her career after 17 straight seasons in the Swedish national team.
The jury’s ground for the choice of Petra Dydiszko as this year's female athlete:
"A great competitor who is always best when it counts. She has a real killer instinct and continued to evolve throughout her long career. Despite a year filled with injuries, she once again had a great season in national and international competitions. She won three medals at the European Championships and one at the World Championships. Additionally, she became Swedish Champion in a number of events. Overall in her career, she has now won all together 49 European Championship and World Championship medals."
