Norwegian National Championship 2013

9th - 10th of November the Norwegian National Championship 2013 was arranged in Tonsberg, in the south-east of Norway. Tonsberg has nearly 40 000 inhabitants, and the host club Tonsberg has about 200 members and was started in 1990.

This years National Championships with its 460 competitors, 40 coaches and 41 umpires made this championship the biggest national championship ever in Norway The athletes represented 58 clubs from all parts of the country, and some of the competitors had to make a long journey, over 2000 kilometers from the high North.

The host had done a tremendous job to make this championship such a success. The championship was opened by the major of Tonsberg, and kids from local clubs held a nice demonstration together with some of the members of the norwegian national team. The level at the championships was very high and escpecially it was good to see the big junior divisions which gives great hope for the future. Anja Bertelsen and Stian Bringslid, who are also on the national team, were awarded as the best female and male competitor at the championships. They were presented with His Majesty the Kings Award which is the highest recognition and award a sport athlete can get in Norway.

Saturday evening there was a banquet with over 500 persons, with nice food, speeches, standup show, awardings and music performance.

Sunday there was competition for team, both sparring and pattern and there was traditional sparring, special techniques and power breaking competition.

All in all a very nice championship with a very friendly atmosphere.
