INTA National Championships 2013

With over 300 hundred junior participants, the INTA National Championships held on Saturday and Sunday the 19th and 20th of October in The Watershed, Kilkenny was a hub of activity.

The first day saw the junior colour belt members take part in patterns, sparring and the ever popular special technique categories. Tears of joy, and even some disappointment, demonstrated once again how enthusiastic these young members are. Speaking at the event, the President of the INTA Master Brendan O'Toole said: "It is encouraging to see so many young members coming up through the organisation. These young boys and girls are the future of the organisation, and from what we have seen today, the future will be in safe and capable hands."

The Senior colour belt members and all black belt members took to the floor on Sunday 20th October. The intensity and power of the competition was palpable and the range of the competitors' in terms of both grade and age was noteworthy. From the young 12-15 year old blackbelt members to the over 40's competing from all around the country, the competitive spirit was high and proved for excellent sparring matches and inspiring patterns performances.

Tournament Director Mr. Jeroen Wezelman was delighted with the success of the weekend and thanked the staff of the Watershed, the tournament committee, all the many umpires, coaches and competitors for their support and positive participation.

The INTA are now beginning preparations for their flagship event which will take place on the first weekend of March – The INTA Open. Further information is available on the INTA website at www.inta.ie.
