Dublin Open Report

The Irish Taekwon-Do Association Dublin Open took place in the DCU Sports Complex on April 28th. This was the largest one-day tournament ever run by the association with 522 competitors, junior & senior taking part. This tournament was exclusively for colour belts as the ITA will host a Blackbelt Open Championships on the 2nd of June in Kilkenny.

The tournament began promptly at 10am with a full-house of competitors & spectators there to witness the action taking place across 8 rings. The level of support from within the association was impressive with 75 umpires taking parts along with competitors representing 29 clubs from all regions of the country. There was an excellent level of competition on display in all age groups with many competitors needing to win four rounds or more to reach the medal stages of their sections. The tournament ran ahead of schedule finishing early at 4pm, an excellent achievement considering the number of competitors involved.

Blanchardstown Taekwon-Do finished as the best overall club with 14 Gold, 7 Silver & 5 Bronze medals, Integrity Martial Arts placed second while Cork ITA, Newlands Taekwon-Do & Greystones rounded out the top five respectively.

As always credit must be given to the ITA tournament & umpire committee of Mr Adrian Byrne, Mr Stephen Ryan, Mr Mark Buckley, Ms Laura Cullen & Mr Niall Jones as well as the tournament host Mr Stephen Cooley and the volunteers from local clubs who helped to set up the venue for the event.

The Irish Taekwon-Do Association will host the ITA Blackbelt Open Championships in June, followed by the ITA Irish Cup which takes place in Limerick in November.
