The first training session of Taekwon-Do in Lubartów was held on January 16th, 1983 in a sport hall of Group of Vocational Schools no 1 in Lubartów. The session was organized on the initiative of Mr. Jerzy Jedut. At that time Mr. Jedut was a holder of the 6th gup (green belt) and was already leading the section in TKKF Budowlani school in Lublin. Some people in this group were traveling for training sessions exactly from Lubartów.
In those days Taekwon-Do was comparatively little known in Poland. One of the strategies of its development was establishing of as many numbers of schools as possible in order to promote it. Mr. Jedut received an offer to organize a section in Lubartów. The fact is worth mentioning that at that time it was sufficient to post up a note about a training session on the information’s desk in a school where the classes should take place. People heard also about the event on the grapevine. This was enough to have around 60 people on the first training session. The Lubartow Taekwon-Do section was established within the structures of the Academic Taekwon-Do Club of Lublin University of Technology.
Within next two weeks the best ten students of Lubartów section (some were previously practicing in Lublin), took their first exam in Lublin before the panel of examiners consisted of representatives of the Korean Embassy in Poland and the Korean Taekwon-Do Federation. During that test Mr. Jedut passed his grading for the blue belt.
From its establishment the group was proved to be very dynamic. Only in August 1983 the group did organized the first sports camp in Ostrów Lubelski city, in which 20 people took part.
In the years 1991-1992 the competitors of Academic Taekwon-Do Club of Lublin University of Technology moved into the structures of the Regional Sport Federation in Lublin. Beginning from March 1992 the senior competitors from Lubartów took part in the tournaments as members of Lublin Sport Club of Taekwon-Do and the junior competitors were taking part in the tournaments as MKS “Lewart” Lubartów. After the end of the 1992 sports season all mentioned competitors decided to join MKS “Lewart” and were representing the club since 1993, some of them until today.
On Wednesday, 16th January 2013, in a training hall of MKS „Lewart” was held a small celebration on the occasion of 30 years anniversary of Taekwon-Do in Lubartów.
Among the invited guest were Master Tadeusz Loboda, the President of Polish Taekwon-Do Association and Mr. Andrzej Kozłowski, the first coach of Jerzy Jedut and the forerunner of Taekwon-Do in Poland.
Present during the event were the current but also the previous competitors, who were representing club and Lubartów, with its most famous athlete – Mr. Jaroslaw Suska.
Many of them are bringing already their own children to the sport centre. And so the next generation can continue the education of this great martial art and mould theirs personalities and characters.
The event was full of recollections from the past. Master Loboda first had the floor. He was followed by Master Jedut. Everyone who gathered in the training hall were listening to the stories from before years.
The clubs achievements are impressive. MKS “LEwart” is absolutely the best and the most titled school in the history of Polish Taekwon-Do. There are 45 black belt holders among its members. 9 competitors became the individual World Champions - Jarosław Suska, Anita Pasek-Suska, Mariusz Wałach, Miłosz Moskaluk, Daniel Działa, Ilona Działa, Monika Kosior, Justyna Szajuk i Beata Bocian – some of them twice or even more. Many athletes were the European or Polish Champions and among the youngest adepts are already the winners of the regional competitions. And their future is bright.
The moments of reminiscence were sweetened by a beautiful and delicious anniversary cake prepared on that occasion by the regional confectionary.
A common training session closed this unusual day in the training hall of MKS “Lewart” .
The official celebration of the 30 years anniversary of Taekwon-Do in Lubartów is scheduled for June 2013. It will take place during the 26th Polish Senior Championships to be held in Lubartów.
