History
Svea Cup started up in 2007 because there was a need for a competition in the region of Stockholm. Since 2007 we had the competition every year but in different places, from Södertälje, to Stockholm and now in Lidingö. The idea with Svea Cup were in the beginning to get more people competing and since we had the problem that top athletes and non top athlethes was in the same divisions we made Svea Cup only for people that didn´t get to the top athletes level yet. This made Svea Cup special in the advanced class (2kup highter) because athletes never could face top athletes from the national team, which made people competing more. We could see black belts who never had competing before.
Svea Cup 6
This year Svea Cup brought about 170 competitors, starting from 8 years old to seniors. This year was also the first time Svea Cup went from a national to an international competition and reason for that was that a club from Finland took part with three competitors and one coach.
The first part of the competition was on four rings but after the youngest had done their part we continued on three rings. The whole competition went on very well and this is because all the coaches and referees did a great work during the whole day and we could finish the competition by planned schedule. As an instructor and former member of the Swedish national team, my opinion is that the level of the youngest competitors was very good in both patterns and sparring and this is a good success.
Even if the youngest had a great level there was also a high level in the advanced division. You could see a lot of technique and lot of spirit. I hope this trend will hold on and that more people will take part in our ITF competitions that is gone more professional than ever.
Once more I want to thank all the coaches and referees that did a great work. And I also want to thank Master Dydiszko and Sabumnim Ms. Mimmi Oskarsson for the time they have spent for doing the competition to a great event with their professional work.
In future we also want to make a top athletes class to get more people involded in the competition.
