Following the great work done in Sweden, Norway or Slovenia and securing Sports Council recognition working alongside the WTF the same is happening in Scotland.
WTF & ITF Masters, Instructors & Coaches have been working together making this day possible. ITF & WTF have been working and supporting each other over the past 20 months and it has almost been one year since they signed the Memorandum of agreement working towards establishing TKDSL, the umbrella body, to represent the Art and sport as a whole in Scotland.
With a joint membership level in excess of 2500 members, 82 Instructors & 71 schools and clubs in locations throughout Scotland this is what makes TKDSL the single largest body and the only body representing WTF & ITF in Scotland. A centralised Membership Services has been established to deal with all administrative matters, and all clubs, school, associations and individual members will register through TKDSL membership service. Both ITF & WTF although together still retain complete autonomy in their respective arts under TKDSL.
The first step towards to securing Sports Council Recognition in Scotland was taken when 1200 ITF members democratically elected Master Sheena Sutherland to represent the ITF Scotland ‘s membership and to take her place on the Main Board of Directors within TKDSL. Master Sutherland joins Master Andrew Brown who is the highest ranked Scottish born Master practicing WTF in Scotland.
They will be responsible for maintaining the high standards of teaching, increasing membership, increasing participation and to Development the Art & Sport of ITF & WTF Taekwondo in Scotland.
Commenting on this historical event Master Sheena Sutherland stated:
“It has always been a lifetime ambition to unite Scotland under one body, a body that has respect for all styles of Taekwondo. Now under TKDSL we have a unique opportunity to tap into the massive amount of experience and resources now available to us. This joint venture will succeed where others have failed as we have came together because we want to.We recognise that by working together towards a single goal we are stronger. We have not been forced together or because of any other external factors, we truly believe that this is the best thing for the practitioners of Scotland and it will help us to get recognised as a force throughout the world”
