Newsletter 1/2012 Black Eagle Seminar with Mr. Barada
On the 14-15.01.2012, The Black Eagle Taekwon-Do and Thierry Meyour 6th Degree was honored to host a seminar, in Tampere Finland, animated by Sabum Tomaz Barada, 6th Degree from Slovenia. This seminar is part of the "Legends Series" seminars.
Mr. Barada is one ITF Taekwon-Do biggest legends (6 Times ITF European Champion, 3 Times ITF World Champion, King of Taekwon-Do and undefeated WAKO kickboxing champion).
Mr. Barada arrived on the 13.01, after a quick rest, he visited Black Eagle Taekwon-Do Dojang and conducted 2 lessons, one for our juniors (8-11 y.o) and one for our seniors. The lessons included many sparring drills and very inspiring motivational speeches.
The seminar in itself started on the 14.01 and around 100 participants from Finland and a couple of guests from Russia (Mr. Andrey Golubev 6th Degree and his students) were anxiously waiting for the kick off of what was to become a real test of guts and limits.
During the seminar Mr. Barada showed us many sparring drills as well as conditioning exercises necessary for nowadays international sparring level. His speed, his eye for the opponent's mistake and sense analysis were really amazing, not talking about his extreme stamina and condition. A real treat for many members of the Finnish National Team eager to get inspiration for the upcoming European Championships that will be held in Maribor, Slovenia, organized by the man himself.
What stroke me the most is the similarities in his methods and even mimics and speech with His Instructor and coach Master Willy Van De Mortel, whom the Black Eagle Taekwon-Do had the privilege to host a couple of time a few years back.
At the end of the seminar, we finally though we had found his weak point, by taking him to the traditional Sauna and "Avanto" (frozen lake dipping), but even there he just walk straight out of the Sauna and straight into that frozen lake saying "If Willy did it, I have to".
What a champion and mostly what a gentleman. His humility and kindness were really inspiring, a real lessons to all future "Great Champions".
