INTA Championships Report

The Irish National Taekwon-Do Association (INTA) held their recent Championships in The Watershed Gym in Kilkenny on Sunday the 30th of October. The event catered for 230 students and was supported by over 40 umpires. The tournament committee headed by Tournament Director Mr. Jeroen Wezelman ensured that the event ran like clockwork. Four rings, broken down according to age groups ensured that no students were left waiting and updates for students, coaches and spectators were provided throughout the day on screens strategically placed around the hall.

The tournament commenced at 10am prompt with the patterns sections for colour belts members and this was quickly followed by sparring categories. Junior competitors finished by lunch time, however, the majority of students and spectators remained after lunch to watch and support their instructors and senior grades in the Dan Competition. This year, due to a large number of senior black belt entries, competition was exciting and sparring categories had students and spectators alike on the edge of their seats. The tournament came to an end at 4pm with the -71kg senior black belt sparring section.

Results of the sections can be downloaded here (MS Word, 104 kB).

On behalf of the Tournament Director and INTA, we would like to thank all those who participated and aided in the running of the event and particularly to The Watershed Staff and Mr. McMullen for the organisation and set-up of the event. We look forward to seeing everyone in the same venue for the INTA Open in March.
