Highest Kick in Ireland

Members of the Irish National Taekwon-Do Association recently completed the highest kick in Ireland.

The students from the Jee-Goo and Brooklodge Taekwon-Do Club in Cork set their sights on the mammoth task to raise funds to help in the development of a new full-time hall for the club. A total of 16 students in addition to family, friends and supporters undertook a 6 hour trek and scaled Carrauntoohil (the highest mountain in Ireland). Climbers ranged from 10 years of age right up to 59 years. Funds were raised through sponsorship cards. Every student combed their local area, informing the community about the climb. The group and supporters undertook the most difficult route to the top of the mountain – Devils Ladder, which consisted of climbing up an unstable and wet rock face.

Every person in the group, including Penny the Club Collie, successfully made it to the top. Students were suitably rewarded with a few breathtaking views while the clouds momentarily parted. At the top of the mountain, despite the cold, students changed into their Taekwon-Do Suits and much to the delight of other climbers and onlookers performed a range of movements and techniques including the highest possible kick that could be done.
