Newsletter 1/2011 ITA Cork Open Championships Report
The 2011 Irish Taekwon-Do Association (ITA) Cork Open Taekwon-Do Championships took place in Neptune Basketball Stadium on Sunday 20th February 2011. The event, which has been overseen for many years by Mr. Mark Buckley 6th Dan, ITA Tournament Director, attracted 428 junior and cadet competitors from all over Ireland. The annual competition for young athletes comprises pattern and sparring events only.
The championships took place on six competition areas staffed by a team of 75 qualified umpires, under the direction of ITA Umpire Chairperson, Mr. Stephen Ryan 5th Dan.
The tournament was programmed and scheduled by Mr. Richard Park, ITA Tournament Administrator and ran to schedule between 10am to 5pm sharp. The competitive level was high, with all bouts hotly contested for the honour of taking home one of the Cork Open trophies. Irish Taekwon-Do Association would like to thank all competitors, coaches, umpires and supporters for making the 2011 ITA Cork Open a great day of Taekwon-Do.
