Julia Cross from Scottland has had an amazing career as a Taekwon-Do competitor. Now it seems she will have a fantastic career as an instructor as well.
The weekend from 18.-20. february, Miss Cross was invited by the National Taekwon-Do Norway as a special guest instructor for one hundred Norwegian girls in a project called ”GoodEnough”. The idea behind the ”GoodEnough” seminar is to get girls more keen on sparring, and more confident within the sparring ring. A major change from previous years, appart from the appearance of Miss Cross, was that this year we also had seperate training for girl swith compeeting experience. The instructors devided the class into three different levels of experience, which workedout great. This year, the female half of the Norwegian National Team was attending the seminar, which was a great motivation factor for the youngest and most inexperienced.
When every aspect of the seminar seemed to flow beautifully along, and we thought things couldn´t get any better; Enter Julia Cross!
Julia Cross was simply amazing. No one could in their wildest imagination believe that this fireworkof an instructor went through hip replacement surgery just a few months ago. Her speed, intensity, precense and her inner drive, hadn´t diminished one single bit. She was a great inspiration for both the beginners, as well as the most experienced of the lot. Everyone we talked to said they learned alot from Miss Cross.
Miss Cross and three other Norwegian girls, all with different methods of instructing, gave the participants a good and varied seminar. One hundred girls sparring is not an every day sight, but we hope to see more of it. They really seemed to enjoy the weekend, and with this kind of pioneerwork, we hope to get more girls interested in sparring and to have made this seminar an exciting event for many years to come.
- It was wonderful to see so many girls at the floor, different levels, and different ages. It was really enjoyable, says Julia Cross, who had to sign many belts after the weekend. Many also wanted photos together with the instructor from Scottland, who says that she also learned a lot from the three Norwegian girls that teached on the seminar.
