The 12th International ITF Open hosted by the INTA took place on Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th of February in the National Basketball Arena, Tallaght, Dublin. 370 competitors from Ireland, England, Scotland and Sweden took part in the two day tournament. The event ran extremely well. An early 9am start kicked off the colour belt junior patterns which was quickly followed by special technique and sparring categories. The five ring councils greeted eager senior colour belts from 12 noon. Senior colour belts competitors culminated Day 1 at 4pm. This year, increased numbers of senior colour belt competitors meant larger divisions which resulted in tough competition and some noteworthy performances. Day 2 saw all black belts take to the floor. As always, the black belt competitors were in great form. Junior black belt members took part in the traditional pyramid system of patterns and sparring while senior competitors followed the round robin method for sparring. The final of each category was kept for a centre stage debut to allow all spectators and umpires to bear witness to the talent and skill of the competitors. The medals were then presented by Master Brendan O’Toole VIII (President of the INTA) and Master Val Douglas VII (Vice-president of the INTA).
The INTA Organising Committee and Mr. Colm Ryan (Tournament Director) would firstly like to thank the many umpires who volunteered their time and expertise for the two days. The abundance of umpires enabled the smooth and efficient running of both days which allowed for a 3pm finish on Sunday. Secondly, a thank-you to all the competitors that took part, particularly those that travelled from outside of Dublin and overseas. We look forward to seeing you all again for the 13th International ITF Open in 2012.
