The Dutch Taekwon-Do club “OH DO KWAN” was founded in September 1989 by Sabums Art van der Lee and John Verkerke, so we celebrated our 20th anniversary this September.

A special camp was organised for this event at “Summer camp Heino” in the north of Holland and lasted a whole weekend. About 60 participants got on the bus to enjoy a weekend of Taekwon-Do and other fun. Summer camp Heino is utilized with a training hall, a sports field, a swimming pool and a discotheque, including a dining hall for breakfast, lunch and diner. We were issued a large house which occupied all 60 of us to sleep and do indoor activities. Thanks to sponsoring we all looked great in a bright red t-shirt showing our club-logo and sponsor names.

The comity, responsible for the organisation of the weekend, created a tight schedule which included an “Ohdokwan-quiz” in the evening and a lot of training and fun in daytime.

 
 
 

The first day, before lunch, we went into the training hall and practiced Taekwon-Do parts like: Tul, Hosin-sul, Matsogi and Tukgi under the scrutinizing eyes of our instructors, correcting everywhere where needed. After an intensive, but satisfying morning session we went to lunch. In the afternoon the comity had organised a lot of fun-games on the sports field, this was possible because the entire weekend we were blessed with the nicest weather you can imagine: temperatures up to 27 degrees Celsius! After a well needed shower and diner, the club founders were celebrated and awarded for their effort and accomplishments in the past 20 years. A unique key ring was created for every club member, a souvenir to be proud off. After this, a group celebrated in the discotheque until the late hours.

The last day (Sunday) after breakfast, everybody assembled in the training hall to be instructed again. After warm-up exercises and stretching, the very intense workout called “kick fun” was laid heavy upon all participants, so everybody was drained off the last ounces of energy. Super! After showers and lunch it was already time to go home. The bus had arrived to take us all back. It was a GREAT weekend! Up to the next 20 years!
