Viking Cup 2009 – a great success!

During the weekend 4th-5th of April the international competition Viking Cup was held in Skövde, Sweden. It was the 10th anniversary of the event which was a great success both for participants, spectators and the town Skövde.

The town Skövde was decorated with hundreds of special made super-sized Viking Cup-flags which of course caught the public’s attention. The local radio station broadcasted live all weekend long.

The organizer always tries to improve and develop the arrangement from the previous ones. This year the greatest improvement was that all 5 rings, thanks to the Polish TKD Association, was equipped with an electronic system. The system was great in may ways and was well appreciated by competitors, coaches and spectators. It made the competition much more efficient as the results could be announced right after the final whistle. The spectators could also follow the competition with better cognizance as they systematically could follow the umpires scorings.

This years Viking Cup gathered about 300 competitors from 14 different countries. The person who had traveled the longest to get to the Viking Cup was Mr. Elvis Price from the USA. He presented true TKD-courage by traveling alone from the other side of the world to take part in the competition. Mr. Price had great TKD-technique and won the bronze medal in sparring Top Level male -63 kg which had no less than 20 participants.

The main trophy of the competition was finally handed to Dolny Slask TKD from Poland which was crowned as the best participating club/organization with not less than 11 gold medals.

The technical level of the competitors was very high. This made the sparring much interesting and full of action. There was also a great atmosphere during the competition as TKD-enthusiasts from all over Europe gathered around their greatest interest. Very well appreciated was the Viking Cup Party which took place in Night Club Vatra on Sunday evening and night. There were dancing and interesting TKD-conversation going on all night long…

Thanks to everybody for the fantastic days this year and welcome back to Sweden next Viking Cup International.
