National Black Belt Exam, the Netherlands

Twice a year I.T.F. the Netherlands conducts a national degree examination for first up to fifth degree. This time there were two candidates for third degree, four for second and sixteen for first. The grading was done by two commissions, the first chaired by Sahyun Willy van de Mortel, assisted by Sabums Carlo van de Braak and John Verkerke (both fourth degree), the second chaired by Sahyun Wijnad Tapilatu, assisted by Sabums Art van der Lee and Martijn Lindeboom (both fifth degree). Sahyun Tapilatu and Sabum Lindeboom interviewed the candidates for third degree about their thesis on Taekwon-Do, while Sabum Martin Schellens oversaw the theory exam of the second and first degree candidates.

After that the practical part of the grading commenced. Every candidate performed four selected patterns, after which several types of step sparring, self defense and breaking were shown.

Most candidates performed well, especially the brothers Mitchell and Joshua Arens, grading for third degree. However, there were several people who only barely passed, and one candidate failed the test. That notwithstanding, it was a good day for I.T.F. Netherlands, with 21 new Degree holders!

Sincerely,
Martijn Lindeboom
