Polish Open – Lublin


Mr. Władysław Stefan Grzyb, The Town Crier of Lublin announcing the opening of the Championship

On 22nd and 23rd November 2008 in the Sport hall MOSiR in Lublin was held the Polish Open International. 245 competitors representing 50 clubs from 10 countries came to Lublin. Apart from Poland in the championships took part the competitors from England, Belarus, Iran, Latvia, Moldova, Romania, Russia and Slovakia. It is worth noting that the competitors from Iran took part in the championships, who were absent at those kind of event from a long time.

The Championships was observed by Mr. Parviz Mamedov – President of the Kazakhstan Taekwon-do ITF Association.

The competition was played on 5 squares. The participants were divided into two age groups – juniors and seniors. In each group the pattern and sparring were divided into two sections for color and advanced group.

   
   

On Saturday evening to sum up the morning qualifiers the official Final Gala was hold in which the best competitors took part. Beside the 7 final fights on the highest sport level and the pre-arranged sparring made by Paweł and Piotr Szwejkowski from Ciechanów, the evening show consisted of additional attractions.

The audience could see Ms. Dorota Galińska, the current Polish Champion in Fitness, as well as the dancers from the Dance School “Lider” from Lublin. The audience applauded particularly the acrobatic demonstration of Mr. Michal Drabicki and Grzegorz Pajewski from Warsaw.

The organizers were very content because the Championships attracted many spectators as well as the representatives of local and regional authorities who presented the winners of each category with medals and diplomas.


   

The Final Gala referred to the tradition of Lublin City. It was opened by Mr. Władysław Stefan Grzyb – The Town Crier of Lublin who is official member of the Guild of Town Criers of European Continent. Next the official Bugle-Call of Lublin was played.

The event was shown in the Regional Television directly after the Final Gala, as well as next day in the sports magazines. The information about the Championships appeared in many newspapers.

It is worth saying that the graphic design of the Championships was prepared by Ms. Anna Szabat and Mr. Piotr Lewicki from Lublin advertisement company „Acca Trend” www.accatrend.com.pl. This graphic design was evaluated as one of the best projects which were prepared for the Taekwon-do events organized in Lublin Area.

The best senior female competitor became Ilona Dziala from MKS Lewart Lubartów, who won the advanced sparring category up to 58 kg and was second in the pattern 2nd – 6th Degree.

The best senior male competitor was Mr. Aleksandr Leonov (Russia) who won the advanced sparring category up to 54 kg and 3rd Degree pattern.

The same number of gold medals won Mr. Milosz Moskaluk from Lewart Lubartów, however he had less winning fights then Leonov. This is why Mr. Leonov won the overall senior medal classification.

Among juniors the best were Kamila Szustak (TKT Lechmed Torun) with 1 gold and 1 bronze medal and Michal Maczka (GKS Posejdon Gdynia) with 1 gold and 1 silver medal.

The best three clubs in the overall junior and senior category were:
         1. MKS Lewart AGS Lubartów
         2. Taewo Warszawa
         3. KSKT Kielce

All participants assessed the championships very high and the coaches decided to bring even more competitors next year.
