Less than two weeks remained to the opening ceremony of the International Taekwon-do Tournament - Mazovia Cup 2007 played within the framework of the Polish Open. Until now 196 competitors representing 36 clubs from Ireland, England, Finland, Slovakia, Czech and Poland reported their will to take part in this tournament. Many superb competitors confirmed their participation and therefore the competition in some weight categories will be remarkably interesting.
Among the female competitors present will be Ilona Omiecinska (Matsogi Ciechanów) twice Junior World Champion (2006 Tegucigalpa - Honduras and 2007 in Quebec - Canada). After losing against Joanna Lipa during the October European Cup in Tampere she would like to win for sure in her family home town Ciechanow. Unexpectedly many competitors will take part in the lower female sparring category up to 52 kg. In the absence of Marzanna Pawlik (the World Champion 2005 in Dortmund – Germany and Vice Champion 2007 in Quebec – Canada) Paulina Heiskanen from Finland will have a chance of winning this category. Paulina Haiskanen was winner of this year European Cup in Finland.
The second finish competitor who stands a big chance of winning in Ciechanów is Nyyti Korolainen (the student of Mr. Mariusz Steckiewicz – the President of ITF Finland). She won the category over 70kg in Tampere as well.
Among the male competitors in the category up to 63 kg will fight Matt Cadle from Ellis TKD Association (England) – present World Champion and Milosz Moskaluk (Lewart Lubartów (Poland) – former World Champion up to -54kg in 2001 in Rimini (Italy). If they both meet, it will be great opportunity for Moskaluk to get his revenge for a defeat that he suffered from Cadle during the last World Championships in Canada.
Some very good competitors will also spar in the category up to 80kg. Among them Daniel Dziala (Lewart Lubartow) the World Champion 2005 in Dortmund (Germany), dynamic Karl Kelly from Ireland – the winner of European Cup 2007 in Finland as well as Slawomir Zarejko from Start Olsztyn – very experienced and famous for his speed competitor.
Extraordinarily interesting promises to be the category over 80kg were among the others will compete Dariusz Idzikowski (Start Olsztyn), three times World Champion: in 2001 Rimini Italy, in 2003 Warsaw (Poland) and in 2007 Quebec (Canada) as well as Zak Espi from England, who beat Idzikowski and was European Champion in this category during the Euros 2006 in Romania.
The traditional sparring will be also part of the tournament. During the last European Cup held at the beginning of October the twin brothers Piotr and Pawel Szwejkowscy from Matsogi Ciechanów won this category. They promised to repeat their success in the home city Ciechanów.
The superb cast of the Mazovia Cup guarantees the high level of the competition and lots of emotion for every sympathizer of the martial arts.
The championship will be held under the honor patronage of Mr. Adam Struzik, Marshal of the Mazowieckie Province and Mr. Waldemar Wardziński, President of Ciechanów City.
