Celebration of the Cork Team’s return from WC Champs

Irish Taekwon-Do Association (ITA) clubs in Cork, which is in the southern region of Ireland, organised a Taekwon-Do “Fun day” on Sunday the 5th November to celebrate Ireland’s successful World Cup campaign winning 8 Gold, 6 Silver and 18 Bronze medals at the largest competitive event in ITF Taekwon-Do.

The Lord Mayor of Cork arrived for the official opening at 11am and following his very astute and much appreciated speech the day was underway. The instructors, Mr. Mark Buckley V Dan and Mr. Leonard Coughlan II Dan arranged many fun activities for the junior students such as; bouncing castles and inflated jousting.

The Cork Clubs on 3 gold, 2 silver and 5 bronze medals as part of the Irish Taekwon-Do Association’s 32 medal tally. Philip McAuliffe, Lorraine McCarthy and Aaron O’Connor are the new World Cup Champions from the Southern Region.

Irish Government Minister, Micheál Martin TD travelled from an engagement in Dublin, especially, to support the ‘Fun Day’ and during his midday appearance he made a presentation to each of the 23 Cork members of the Irish Taekwon-Do Association (ITA) team.

In his speech he praised the dedication and discipline all the Taekwon-Do practitioners present and congratulated them on their commitment to ITF Taekwon-Do. The minister was presented with an honorary Black Belt and certification from the Irish Taekwon-Do Association (ITA) in recognition of his continued efforts to encourage sporting activities such as this.
