The most important event of the Old Continent this year is already accomplished. On 12th -14th May 2006 in Constanta (Romania) took place the XII Junior and XXI Senior European Taekwon-Do Championships with 392 competitors from 26 European countries. The overall country winner was again Poland and it was 15th win of the National Polish Team. It doesn't mean that it was so easy. In both junior and senior category there was just one Polish competitor that took gold medal in sparring. It didn't happen for a long time.
There were many very famous individual competitors attending the Championships. Their performance really attracted spectator's attention. The technical standard of participants is increasing every year. There are no weak teams or individuals now.
It is worth to mention that AETF Tournament and Umpire Committee, did really great job during Euros. Mr. Coos v/d Heuvel, Mr. Sandy Dunbar and Mr. Giovanni Cecconato made that the competition run smoothly according to the schedule.
The very emotional Romanian publicity made the atmosphere of the Championships memorable. Cheering the competitors they were making sometimes a pressure, but it didn't affect the referees job.
The Romanian media was also present and recorded the Championships.
The coaches and officials attending the Euros bought many new ideas how to make the next competitions better. The AETF Board of Directors will take them under considaration during the next Board meeting at the beginning of 2007.
I would like to express our great appreciation and thanks to the Organizing Committee and all people involved in preparation of the Championships.
Our very special thanks go to Mr. Mircea Muntean - the Secretary General of Romanian Taekwon-do Federation ITF, who done great job during the Euros.
