Seminar in Canada 10th - 12th February 2006

The day after the Polish Winter Camp ended, Miłosz Moskaluk and I flew to Canada to conduct a seminar as organised by Nicholas Tran. We left Wisła in Southern Poland for Warsaw, then flew to Montreal, via Amsterdam, and finally travelling 240km to Quebec. The weather was a cool -17 C, so we felt very much at home having just left similar conditions in Europe. We were very impressed by our accomodation so this also helped to make us more comfortable. Unfortunately I still suffered from jet lag on that first night, waking up at 2am (8am Polish time)!

That night, Nicholas Tran came to welcome us and brought us to try a local speciality - poutine, only available in Quebec. We discussed the plan for the seminar. He returned the next morning to bring us to the sports hall where over 100 people were waiting to participate. It was an honour for me to do a seminar in Canada, a country where the standard of Taekwon-do has always been very high, and of course, in the presence of Master Trân Triêu Quân.

The main focus of the seminar was sparring, unfortunately we had only 2 days so the information had to be very condensed. Also, Milosz and I were so busy we did not have much time to take photos of the sparring exercises. However, everyone who completed the questionnaire at the end of the seminar were positive, with 99% of people saying they would like for us to meet again.

On Sunday, everyone who participated in the seminar received a certificate of attendance and Milosz and I were presented with gifts of water colour paintings of the beautiful city of Quebec. Master Trân Triêu Quân and Nicholas then brought us to the sports hall which is to be the venue for the World Championships 2007. This was followed by a delicious supper at his home, where we tried many different types of food.

Monday morning Master Tran brought us to his office, then showed us various sights in Quebec. It is actually quite similar to European cities. We were very impressed by the Ice Castle we saw in the Old Town, and we really enjoyed the ice sculptures and sledding. We finished our trip with a delicious meal at one of the finest restaurants in Quebec.
