Best Polish Fighter In Action

The Polish Cup 'A' for Junior and Senior competitors took place on the 4th-5th March in Starachowice, Central Poland. 139 senior male and female competitors from 32 clubs and 128 junior male and female competitors from 30 clubs took part in the competition, making this the largest Polish Cup so far.

The main goal of this event is qualification of the best Polish competitors for the Polish Championships to be held on 26th-28th May 2006 in Kielce. It also allows for the national coaches to examine the talent for the National Junior and Senior Team in 2006. Another aim of the tournament was to highlight Taekwon-do in the area as Rafal Gozdfalski (organiser of the event) is the President of Starachowicki Sportowy Klub Taekwon-do, a brand new club in this region.

The fights were of a very high standard throughout the competition, from Junior Colour Belt to Senior Black Belt. The most surprising event being the successful return of former Polish National Team member, Slawomir Zarejko. After a 5 year absence from competition he achieved gold in +80 kg sparring!

The Grand Finals were held on an elevated platform stage under the spotlights. In between the spars, a professional dance group, Spin from Warsaw, entertained the crowd. But the most entertaining and impressive demonstration was performed by Jaroslaw Suska and Mariusz Walach from Lewart Lubartow who choreographed various kicks, strikes and other attacks to music. First performed in slow motion, then repeated at high speed.

The audience also had an opportunity to see an attempt to beat the record of the Nopi Ap Chagi, The official record of Poland is now 295 cm and two competitors tried to beat this: Rafal Włoch from MKS Lewart Lubartow, (holder of this record) and Paweł Tracz from Taewo KWSW Warsaw, the newly crowned gold medalist in this category. Though very exciting for the audience, who provided great support, unfortunately the attempt was not successful on this occasion.

We have a small gallery of pictures from the competition on this site, but about 400 pictures are available on the website of MKS Lewart Lubartow: http://www.lewart.pl/galeria.php?rok=2006&nazwa=puchar_polski.
